TINA FEY AND AMY POEHLER BRING THE LAUGHS IN THIS SIBLING COMEDY!

            Lately, we’ve been getting some very funny “Chick Flicks” over the years, haven’t we? The gimmicky, lovey-dovey stereotypical nonsense has been in short supply when it comes to the genre, now we’re getting these hilarious movies starring really funny women in cinema, the Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy crew from Bridesmaids, the Bellas from Pitch Perfect, and of course the witty, comedic duo of Saturday Night Live’s Tina Fey (30 Rock, Mean Girls, Date Night) and Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation, Blades of Glory, Inside Out).

            I mean it, these women have a direct line to my funny bone when it comes to comedy, you name it, comedic raunch-fests, family comedies, live-action, and animation, chances are whenever I see a movie that has either Fey or Poehler in it, or both of them, I’m probably going to come out of the theater laughing, and their latest comedy, Sisters is no exception. While I wouldn’t say I thought it was as funny as some of their other films, I got a lot of laughs out of it, the film blends sibling bonding with hilarious hijinks, wild teen-style parties (Except it’s populated by 30-40-somethings), and some sweet moments, and most of it hits bulls-eye.

            What really makes the film work is the strong chemistry between Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, not only are they both very funny but Fey and Poehler put a lot of effort in developing their characters and it’s quite fascinating to realize that they’re not sisters in real life, because even in other movies, they act like they are.

            Tina Fey and Amy Poehler play Kate and Maura Ellis, two 30-something sisters, one loose and childish, the other uptight and divorced who learn that their parents’ home is being sold and decide to spend one last night in the house they grew up in. One very wild night, as in wild teen-style party, ever seen Superbad, Project X, or 21 Jump Street? Well that’s basically what they do, drinking, dancing, hijinks, drugs, everything.

            So, it’s basically another raunchy party comedy, but what makes it so funny is that the wild teens are replaced by people in their 30s acting like children, and you thought adult parties was just boring conversations and wine right? Wrong! But unlike other raunchy comedies like American Pie, they don’t rely too heavily on gross-out humor, which really impressed me because most vulgar comedies usually throw a shlong or two in there (Not that I’m looking at it!), just some references here and there, but that’s about it.

            But that’s not what made me laugh, what made me laugh were Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s chemistry and performances, the two of them together make ma laugh HARD, their deliveries and timing, working off one another, even a scene where they’re just trying on dresses is hilarious, it’s like if Anna and Elsa from Frozen were played by female comedians.

            I didn’t think it was as great as some of the other comedies that came out this year like Spy or Trainwreck, but I still had a humorously fun time watching it, and I enjoyed it more than Pitch Perfect 2 and Ted 2. It doesn’t need to be a laugh a minute raunch-fest or a witty but also touching chick flick comedy, sometimes a comedy can balance the two together and it works well, mostly thanks to Poehler and Fey’s characters, it’s a movie I recommend any sisters to go see and have yourselves a good laugh.
